i went to the pet store today to get large quantities of items for the dogs and thought that I would get a container of crickets for the "girls". I brought the crickets outside and I spy the cutest little egg ever!!!
IN the corner on the FLOOR!!!
well of course, its the one on the right... the one on the left is store bought... but maybe soon we wont need to!! YAY!! oh and we better get crackin on the nest boxes!

Gosh that's early to be getting eggs. All mine were near 5 months before we had any. They must be happy and eating very well. Good Job !!
Really see? that's what we were told, that's what all my books say... They say 25 weeks! Its just one chicken and I think I know who it is too, i saw uncle ted um.... spoiling her...
Oooh, how exciting! We're hoping to get some chickens here soon, we just have to work out the logistics.

Paula! You are right!! I dont know how long it will take for them to get bigger, but I am pretty sure that just 2 hens laying is going to be enough for us to sustain our egg habit. . . Big question is... what do I do with all the other eggs once the babies start layin'!!!

Congrats on the egg! Mine are usually around 5 months before they start laying too. I sell our extra eggs for $1.50/dozen. I don't make much money but it pays for their feed each month. I have also frozen eggs (3-4 per bag - open the eggs and pour them in freezer bags and freeze) for using in cakes, scrambled eggs, etc. when my layers slow down during the winter months.
That is an awesome idea! I had not thought about freezing them. Well hopefully we will have the rest of them laying before the summer is up (they are 12 weeks now) and then we will have lots of eggs to freeze!! We get 1 a day now and about every other day, we get 2!
